- down to the wire/under the wire are both horse racing terms meaning a race was very close and it was down to who reached the finish line (wire) first.
- in the nick of time is eponymously attributed to sir nicholaus goossen, the patron saint of procrastination, who was believed to have... okay this one is made up :)
